FEAT: SCARFACE

So there I was…
I’m done with rapping. I’ve evolved. I had a great time. If I am respected as a legend, it’s cool, but I’m just having fun. I’m ready to move on and continue playing golf. I’m going to the PGA.
Back stage watching a Houston legend at the end of his career. Mr. Scarface finessed the crowd of sneaker-obsessed fans as he covered classics from The Last of a Dying Breed to his 2008 album, Emeritus. Though small in size, the culturally mixed crowd wide eyed at the robust rapper, hung on to every lyric Brad Jordan spit. Theblvdmag.com was able to rap a taste with the 38-year-old hip-hop legend:
THEBLVD: Where are you living? Are you currently in Houston? How often are you here?
SCARFACE: Yes, I am always in Houston. My family is here, so Houston is my main place of residence, but I have spots in Miami and NY.
THEBLVD: Why are you here at Sneaker Pimps?
SCARFACE: I am good friends with Jennifer at Premium Goods. I buy my kicks from there.
THEBLVD: So you’re a sneaker pimp?
SCARFACE: I love nice kicks….If that’s what they callin’ it, then that’s what it is.
THEBLVD: What are you working on, any new albums expected to release? Any new ventures?
SCARFACE: I’m leaving the rap game. It’s over and done for me. I have a comedy show I’m working on.
THEBLVD: What’s up with this comedy show?
SCARFACE: It’s in the works. It will be a comedic film.
THEBLVD: Are you serious about leaving the rap game? You’re a legend not only in Houston but world wide, Jay-Z has mentioned his retirement and he’s still pushing albums….
SCARFACE: I’m done with rapping. I’ve evolved. I had a great time. If I am respected as a legend, it’s cool, but I’m just having fun. I’m ready to move on and continue playing golf. I’m going to the PGA.
THEBLVD: So you mean to tell me that your golf game is serious? The PGA is for professionals.
SCARFACE: I am a professional. I am competing in the PGA.
Since I know nothing of golf, I quickly changed the subject.
THEBLVD: You say you are done with your rap career, what’s left for Houston? How will you pass the torch?
SCARFACE: (hesitates……) That’s not for me to tell. I came to do what I needed to do and now I’m out.
THEBLVD: (Thinks Damn) Wow…what artist do you respect in the Houston rap game?
SCARFACE: (hesitates again……) I feel that Houston will be ok. We still have the foundation. I respect Bun, Z-Ro, Trae, K-Rino.
After our short but memorable chat, Face introduced a tall guy, who seemed to be in his late 20’s, by the name of Chase into our discussion.
SCARFACE: Tell her about me!
CHASE: I used to work at the Soundwaves cd store back in the day as a teenager. I remember Face coming in all the time buying every CD of Marvin Gaye’s, Here My Dear. And I mean every damn CD of that one album.

THEBLVD: Why would he do that?
CHASE: Because he didn’t want anyone to have a copy, and back at that time you could not find that album at any store but Soundwaves.

WOW!!!!!!! Good job buddy!!!!
Wait, so he’s a comedian now? Or is he just putting the show together, like Russell Simmons? Weird.
Good piece! Face is a stand up dude.
